SHILLONG, Oct 14: The East Khasi Hills district administration has issued a prohibitory order to limit vehicle load and speed on two bridges that are in a weakened state. The affected bridges are Bridge No. 5/5 (Umpung Bridge) on the Balat-Bagli road and Timber Bridge No. 74/1 over the Dakni river at Balat, located on the Mawphlang-Balat road.
Reports have indicated that these bridges, including one at Wahjapuh river on the 4th kilometer of the Ichamati-Bholaganj road, are in fragile condition, prompting concerns over further damage.
In response, East Khasi Hills District Magistrate RM Kurbah issued an order under Section 163 of the BNSS, restricting the maximum vehicle load to 6 metric tons (MT) and the speed limit to 15 km per hour on these bridges.
