Council to set up dedicated cell to foster research on Khasi culture

SHILLONG, Oct 14: A book titled Ka Saiñ Pyrkhat u Khasi bad ki Dak Thoh ha ka Ktien Khasi was released at a ceremony which took place at the KHADC auditorium, with KHADC Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem as the chief guest. The event attracted a diverse audience, including dignitaries from KHADC, representatives of literary organisations, and members of the general public.
Authored by Phrikshon Kharshiing, the book delves into Khasi philosophy, exploring various dimensions of the social and cultural traditions of the Khasi community.
During his address, the CEM commended Kharshiing for his efforts and contributions to preserving and promoting Khasi culture. He also announced the establishment of a dedicated cell within KHADC aimed at fostering research on Khasi culture, along with the creation of a library that will house a wide range of vernacular literature.
In a commitment to further support local literature, Syiem declared that copies of Kharshiing’s book would be distributed to all KHADC libraries, including those under the jurisdiction of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The introduction to the book was presented by Dr Ailynti Nongbri, who provided insights into its significance. Kharshiing also took the opportunity to elaborate on his work, sharing his inspiration and the importance of documenting Khasi traditions.
The event was chaired by Raphael Warjri, with a welcome address delivered by Dr Cherry Kordor Kharshiing. The gathering was further graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including KHADC Deputy CEM Pynshngain N Syiem, Chairman of KHADC Lamphrang Blah, senior politician Bindo M Lanong, KHADC Executive Member in-charge of Arts and Culture Victor Rani, and a founding member of the Khasi Authors’ Society, Kitbor W Nongrum.
