SHILLONG, Oct 17: BSF troops on Wednesday prevented an attempt to smuggle 980 bottles of banned narcotic drug Phensedyl cough syrup, which were also seized by the force.
Alert troops of the 172 Battalion BSF, deployed in East Jaintia Hills, detected some smugglers carrying headloads. Although challenged by the troops, the smugglers managed to escape, taking advantage of the thick vegetation and undulating terrain. After a thorough search, the BSF recovered the bottles of Phensedyl.
The seized items were handed over to the customs office in Badarpur for further action.
