Lady Keane College wins city debate competition

SHILLONG, Oct 18: Lady Keane College emerged victorious in an inter-college debate competition, which was hosted by the Department of Philosophy, St. Anthony’s College here on Friday.
The debate competition, which focused on the theme ‘AI Devalues Human Life’, featured participants from eight Shillong-based colleges, including St. Mary’s, St. Edmund’s, Umshyrpi, Raid Laban, BBS, Synod, and the host college.
Lady Keane College’s team, comprising Inamesha Syiem and Tulsi Payeng, emerged as the winner in the debate competition.
In addition to the team victory, Syiem also earned individual honours, taking home both the ‘Most Humorous Speaker’ and ‘Best Individual Speaker’ awards.
Meanwhile, Raid Laban College secured the runner-up position, with Mewal Janai Nongpluh and Diya Sinha representing their institution.
During the debate competition, which was judged by a panel including Prof. Prasenjit Biswas and Prof. P Hangsing of NEHU, and Ronnieson Wahlang (MCS), a quarterly bulletin by the Philosophy Department, Sapientia, was also released, encouraging students to explore philosophical ideas creatively.
