Central assessment of devp projects in Ri-Bhoi district
NONGPOH, Oct 18: Deputy Secretary to North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), Government of India, Ankit Mishra on Friday assess the progress of developmental projects under the Aspirational District and Aspirational Block initiatives in Ri-Bhoi district. Mishra’s visit is to evaluate key performance indicators across five sectors, viz. health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and skill development, and infrastructure. The visit began with a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Nongpoh. During the meeting, BDO Eric C. Dkhar presented updates on the progress of projects under the Aspirational District Programme. Mishra praised the officials for their efforts and encouraged them to continue improving the district’s performance and rise in the delta ranking system. Mishra also visited several project sites on the first day, including RBP Higher Secondary School in Pahamlapong, Umsning CHC, Tea Boutique & Eco-Tourist Lodges at Tea Development Centre Umsning, Umroi CSC, and Auxilium Skills Training Centre in Khapmara. On Saturday, Mishra will conduct field inspections at Umsawnongkharai Sub-Centre, Umdihar Anganwadi Centre, Dulongnar village, et al.

Construction of road projects worth Rs 25.2 cr soon in Mawkynrew
SHILLONG, Oct 18: The much-anticipated construction of two major road projects in Mawkynrew constituency, with a combined cost of Rs 25.2 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-3, is set to begin soon. The projects include a 5.60-km road from Mawkynrew to Pingwait, with a budget of Rs 7.20 crore, and a 19-km road connecting Mawkynrem to Nohron, which has been allocated Rs 17.82 crore. Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh, along with Public Works Department (PWD) officials, inspected the project sites on Wednesday, during which he urged the officials to construct a fence along a stretch of road from Nohron to Mawtnum, where a landslide recently occurred. The MLA also stressed the need for careful implementation of the road projects due to the steep slopes and narrow paths in the region. Lyngdoh also mentioned ongoing plans to extend road connectivity to Nongkynroh, though the proposal is still under review.
