SHILLONG, Oct 19: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya held its 11th Convocation at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, on Saturday, during which 193 scholars and students were awarded their degrees.
Among the top achievers, Kumar Gaurav, a B.Tech in Civil Engineering, was conferred with the prestigious President’s Gold Medal for overall excellence, while Divyasree Dev, a B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, was honoured with the Chairperson’s Gold Medal for best female graduate.
During the event, which was presided over by the Chairman of the Board of Governors of NIT Meghalaya, Sunil Alagh, 140 B.Tech, 9 M.Tech, 23 M.Sc and 21 PhD students received their degrees, with Institutional Gold Medals awarded to Aniket Kumar (B.Tech), Abhay Verma (M.Tech), and Meenakshi Theertha (M.Sc) for academic excellence.
On the occasion, NIT Meghalaya Director, Prof. Pinakeshwar Mahanta, delivered the annual report, highlighting the institute’s rise to 68th place in the 2024 NIRF rankings and its recognition at Expo-2024 for excellence in higher education.
On the other hand, Alagh emphasised the importance of industry exposure and the role of hard work, perseverance and integrity in achieving success in today’s world.
The programme was attended by Managing Director of Eveready Industries India Ltd Suvamoy Saha as the chief guest, while IIT Jodhpur Director Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal; Director (Personnel) at NEEPCO Ltd, Maj. Gen. Rajesh Kumar Jha, were the guests of honour.
