3 pc reservation for differently able

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Parents Association for Disabled (MEPAD) has hailed the Supreme Court direction on October 8, 2013, to implement 3 per cent reservation of ‘posts’ for the differently-able in conformity with The Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.

It was incumbent upon all the State governments in the country to confirm the implementation of the Supreme Court directives within January 8.

The MEPAD have stated that with the direction of the Supreme Court it is now clear that the reservation of 3 per cent for the differently able in conformity with the Act of 1995 should be completed on the basis of the total strength of a cadre (identified and not identified) and not just on the number of vacancies available in the posts that are identified.

The parents’ body has decided to take recourse to filing RTI applications to know the nature of action taken by the Meghalaya Government to bring into effect the 3 per cent reservation for the differently able persons as per the apex court directive
