Agartala: The Tripura Minority Development Council and the Jamiat-Ulema-Hind have accused police of biased investigation into the alleged murder of 20-year-old minority girl Baby Natasha on January 10 and have demanded an inquiry into the incident.
They demanded a probe into the incident by a retired High Court Judge and also payment of a compensation amounting to Rs.10 lakh to the victim’s family, besides, providing adequate security to the family members.
Talking to the media here on Wednesday Jamiat-Ulema-Hind state president Mufti Taibur Rahaman, accompanied by the parents of the victim, alleged that the family had been receiving threat to leave the village by a group of local rowdies for the past few days.
According to police, the victim, a resident of West Taranagar village of Mohanpur, had committed suicide by setting herself on fire a day after her boyfriend (a Hindu) committed suicide by hanging near the house of the girl.
Police also maintained that Sanjib Das (25) had an affair with Natasha but both the families did not accept the relation. Two separate suicide notes were also recovered from the spot. Rahaman alleged that the girl was murdered and police was trying to divert the case intentionally to save the criminals.
Police said on January 9 midnight, Natasha received an SMS from Sanjib and the next morning she found Sanjib was hanging near her house. On January 10 evening, Natasha went out of her house and after a while her family members realized that she had set herself ablaze outside the house where Sanjib had hanged himself. (UNI)
