Fit India Swachta Freedom Run successfully draws 675 participants in Garo Hills

TURA, Oct 25: A total of 675 runners participated in the highly anticipated “Fit India Swachta Freedom Run,” a 10-km marathon that took place on Friday at the Indoor Stadium, Ampati. Organized by the District Sports Office, South West Garo Hills, the event was held under the joint initiatives of Fit India, Khelo India, and the Swachhata Hi Seva mission. The event focused on promoting fitness, sports, and cleanliness, aligning with the broader Fit India movement aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of the community.
The marathon was inaugurated with a ceremonial flag-off by officials and witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse group of runners.
In the men’s division, Bowash K. Sangma from Williamnagar emerged victorious, completing the race in an impressive 15 minutes and 46 seconds. He was closely followed by Bhishmadev Hajong from Marpara village and Tuebirth Ch. Sangma from Gambegre village, who claimed the second and third positions, respectively.
The women’s category saw Neha M. Marak from Muji Agalgre clinched the top position with a remarkable finish of 18 minutes and 45 seconds. Ringsechimik G. Sangma from Chigitchakgre and Dimchi Ch. Marak from Wagi Chiring secured the second and third positions, respectively.
