SHILLONG: Jailed Mawryngkneng second in-charge Sub-Inspector Sudarshan Sangma and two other police constables were allegedly assaulted during a scuffle at Shillong District Jail recently.

Sangma along with UB Constable Claipson M Marak and MPRO (Meghalaya Police Radio Organisation) Operator Constable Basant Lama had been arrested in connection with their alleged involvement in stealing non-ferrous scrap materials from a truck at Shillong Bypass on November 7 last year.

Mawryngkneng PS Officer in-Charge Ekwin Pala had also been arrested but he is currently out on bail.

Police on Wednesday confirmed that some GNLA cadres were responsible for the assault of the three police personnel.

Police have re-arrested three under-trial prisoners – Sankyntiew Decruse, Khrawboklang L Mawnai and Anthony P Marak – for the attack on the three policemen.
