SHILLONG, Oct 25: The East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) has urged the District Transport Officer (DTO) to take action against shops for renting two-wheelers allegedly without proper authorisation.
On Friday, the association inspected several rental shops at Keating Road before filing a formal complaint with the DTO.
Speaking to media persons, the association general secretary A. Kharbani informed that as per the DTO, none of the shops renting two-wheelers have obtained permission from the Transport department.
According to him, the Office of the DTO is empowered to act against such businesses operating illegally.
Kharbani then went on to inform that the shop owners, during the  inspection, claimed to have obtained permits from the Tourism department.
“We fail to understand how Tourism department can infringe into the affairs of the Transport department,” Kharbani said, adding that the association plans to meet Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh for clarification on the matter.
