SHILLONG, Oct 27: Adding additional feather in the cap of Meghalaya’s filmmaking industry, Chanchisoa, a Garo film co-directed by Elvachisa Ch Sangma and Dipankar Das, has been chosen to be screened at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Chanchisoa is among the only 20 non-feature films selected from across India for this year’s festival.
IFFI 2024 has also further recognised Northeast Indian cinema, with selections including Karken, a Galo language film from Arunachal Pradesh by director Nending Loder, and three Assamese films, Juiphool, Rador Pakhi, and Swargarath.
This year, a jury led by filmmaker Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi reviewed 384 entries, ultimately choosing 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films for the Indian Panorama section.
The feature segment will open with Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, while the non-feature category will debut with the Ladakhi film Ghar Jaisa Kuch.
Other notable films include Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail and the sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD.
The festival, scheduled to be held from November 20 to 28 in Goa, is organised by the National Film Development Corporation, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Government of Goa.
