SHILLONG, Oct 27: The two-day Na Thymmei Festival, meaning “From the Root” or “From the Origin,” concluded on Sunday at Madan Weiking in Jaiaw, celebrating Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage. Organised by Seng Khasi Kmie, a socio-cultural group established in Shillong in 1899, the annual event began in November 2022 with support from the Department of Tourism. The festival aims to honour and preserve the region’s indigenous heritage while promoting cultural pride and awareness.
Held at the historic venue where the renowned “Shad Suk Mynsiem” dance takes place each April, Na Thymmei has quickly become a significant cultural festival in Meghalaya. Over the two-day event, attendees enjoyed a blend of traditional dances, musical performances, local theater, and screenings of Khasi heritage films. Visitors also participated in workshops led by Khasi elders and sampled a variety of local cuisines.  Among the attendees were Cyril V Darlong Diengdoh, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, and Swapnil Tembe, Director of School Education and Literacy.
