TURA, Nov 1: Villagers from Gasuapara in South Garo Hills held a public meeting at the Gasuapara playground on Friday, demanding immediate payment of MGNREGA wages under the block.
“We are deeply concerned about the delay in wage payments under the MGNREGA scheme. This delay is causing undue hardship to thousands of rural workers who rely on this income for their daily needs. We urge the authorities to expedite the process and ensure timely payment of wages to all eligible beneficiaries. It is crucial that the MGNREGA scheme, which aims to provide employment and alleviate poverty in rural areas, functions smoothly and efficiently. We call on the government to take immediate action to address this issue and ensure that all eligible workers receive their rightful wages without any further delays,” a statement issued by the villagers following the meeting said.
According to the villagers, block officials had informed them that the delay was due to the inability to submit death certificates for those who could not link Aadhaar with their bank accounts.
However, the villagers alleged that despite submitting the required certificates, the wages remain unpaid.
“We appreciate the government’s assurance and understanding of the office process but it will be very helpful to us if we get the pending wages earlier because most of the families depend on the MGNREGA wage bills. We have decided to send letters to the concerned department on the matter,” they added.
