SHILLONG, Nov 5: Specially abled children from Meghalaya are set to have a unique role in a video presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 3, which marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
As part of veteran magician Gopinath Muthukad’s Bharat Yatra ‘Inclusive India’ programme, these children recently showcased their talents in a magic-led awareness event aimed at promoting inclusivity for people with disabilities, at the Assam Rifles Camp, on Tuesday.
The Bharat Yatra, which began on October 6 in Kanyakumari, is a nationwide journey sponsored by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
Muthukad’s mission involves captivating audiences with magic shows across India, using performances by specially abled children to challenge stereotypes and inspire respect.
Muthukad aims to create a society more attuned to the needs and contributions of people with disabilities.
“It’s the responsibility of society to build access for people with disabilities,” he said, adding that through magic, he hopes to inspire greater awareness and empathy across communities.
