SHILLONG, Nov 5: The Cabinet on Tuesday amended the Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws to facilitate setting up of industrial zones in New Shillong Township (NST).
Speaking to media persons after the cabinet meeting, MDA spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said that this is being done to facilitate the need to categorise industrial zones.
Stating that the expansion in New Shillong Township has to be planned in a scientific manner, he said the government needs the amended Building Bye-Laws for industrial zones to be in place.
With this move, the government intends to regulate the construction of buildings in industrial zones at Mawkhanu and Mawkasiang in NST.
According to Lyngdoh, the new regulation would be applicable in designated industrial estates across Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also amended the Meghalaya Forensic Science Service Rules, 2021, which involves creation of mobile forensic crime scene units.
The Cabinet also decided to create more posts in these units which will lead to faster investigation of crimes across the state.
The mobile unit officers will be equipped with vehicles and the government will now also have a scientific officer, senior scientific assistant and laboratory assistants in all districts.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also name retired IFS officer, BK Lyngwa as the new chairperson of the Meghalaya Real Estate Regulatory Authority.
