TURA, Nov 17: Candidates who contested the recent VEC elections for Namabila village on November 13 have submitted a complaint to the BDO of Selsella over what they called, ‘unsatisfactory and unacceptable’ conduct of polls, while at the same time demanding that the results of the said election be declared null and void and that re-verification of the job card holders be done as well as re-election conducted.
The complaint to the BDO was signed by candidates- Rebecca Ch Marak, Jorina Bibi, Monjilla Begum and a job card holder, Enamul Hoque.
According to the complaint, job card holders were not satisfied with the verification of their cards by officials, as mandated before elections despite which, no re-verification was done to root out death, dual, multiple, bogus, shifted job card holders despite a request being made. “The verification of Namabila VEC to root out the death/dual/ multiple/bogus/shifted job card holders for fair and transparent election to the VEC was conducted in two phases before the election by assigned officials, but the same was under suspicion and lapse for which representation dated 04.11.2024 was submitted to you demanding for re-verification. This was not heeded due to which a total of 31 illegal voters have cast their votes in favour of the winning candidates,” the complainants claimed, while blaming designated block officials.
Pointing out that the winning candidate to the post of secretary overcame her closes rival (Rebecca Ch Marak) by just 28 votes, the complainants said had the 31 illegal voters been cancelled, Marak would have won the elections by 3 votes.
In view of the alleged lapses that took place during the election process, the complainants have urged the BDO not to give appointment to the VEC president and secretary based on the said elections, but to fix the date for re-election in a free and fair manner.
