JOWAI: The two nights road blockade called by the four organisations of Jaintia Hills on January 27 and 28 from 7 pm till 5 am of the next day, has gained the support of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong of East Jaintia Hills.
Pdianghun Dkhar, general secretary of Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong, East Jaintia Hills, in a statement on Tuesday informed that his organisation was in full support of the agitation called by the AJYWO, KSU, HNYF and FKJGP to put pressure on the Government of Meghalaya and the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to undertake immediate repair of National Highway 44 which has become a nightmare for commuters due to its dilapidated condition.
“It is the habit of the Government of Meghalaya to force the NGOs to resort to agitation programmes for each and everything that needs to be done for the welfare of the public. We did not want any agitation as it disturbs the development and economy of the State and also breaks peace and tranquility; but when the government acts adamantly the NGOs are forced to resort to agitation,” Dkhar said.
“In the greater interest of all concerned, we strongly support the four NGOs in their agitation programme so that the Government begins repair of the said highway,” Dkhar stated.
