Scholarship payments of over Rs 108 cr disbursed in state

SHILLONG, Nov 25: The Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (DHTE) on Monday informed that it has disbursed a total of Rs 108.83 crore under the Umbrella Scheme of Post Matric Scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year.
The funds include Rs 98.08 crore from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs as the Central Share, and Rs 10.89 crore contributed by the Meghalaya government as the State Share.
A total of 49,628 students have already received their scholarships in two instalments, the DHTE said.
In the first instalment, Rs 42.32 crore was distributed, comprising Rs 38.08 crore as the Central Share and Rs 4.23 crore as the State Share. A total of 17,364 beneficiaries were paid under this instalment.
The second instalment amounted to Rs 66.66 crore, with Rs 60 crore from the Central Share and Rs 6.66 crore from the State Share. This covered payments for 32,064 beneficiaries.
The DHTE also addressed concerns regarding pending payments. It stated that a total of 27,127 beneficiaries are yet to be paid and will receive their scholarships once the third instalment of funds is released by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
It said the department is actively pursuing the matter with the Centre to ensure timely disbursal of the remaining funds.
