Shillong, Nov 26: In what may be termed as a case of severe negligence, the state government has not paid the salary of home guard volunteers deployed on traffic duty for several months.
The matter came to light after KHNAM on Tuesday urged Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong to release the pending salary of the home guards at the earliest.
In a letter addressed to Tynsong, KHNAM working president, J Pyngrope said, “It goes without saying that employee(s) who do not receive their salary on a regular basis have to go through a lot of hardships while trying to provide for the daily needs of their families.”
He further stated that they they have learnt that there is a delay in the process of sanction from the government.
“Therefore, we would request your office to kindly take necessary steps to ensure that the pending salaries of the home guard volunteers are cleared at the earliest in full so that they and their families can celebrate Christmas with joy and happiness. We also request that, in future, the salary of these volunteers is paid on a regular period so that it does not affect them and their family,” the KHNAM leader said.
He also claimed that the recruitment of home guards is being done in an “unofficial” manner and no written appointment letters are issued to them.
