Team Meghalaya reaches final of North East TT tourney

shillong, Nov 28: The North East Masters Table Tennis Tournament 2024 witnessed an exciting start after a vibrant opening ceremony at the Kohima TT Indoor Hall.
In the 60+ Team event category, Meghalaya emerged as a formidable force, securing their place in the final with dominant performances throughout.
In the group stage, Meghalaya overcame Arunachal Pradesh 3-1 in their first match. Santanu Ghosh was the star of the encounter, registering two emphatic wins, including a 3-0 victory over Libang Perme and a similar straight-set win against Dr. Kaling Dai. The duo of Santanu and RB Das also defeated Dr. Dai and Perme 3-0 in the doubles match.
Meghalaya followed up this win with a clean sweep against Nagaland, triumphing 3-0. Harendra Singha beat Vikheto Sohe 3-0, Santanu Ghosh overcame T Jamir 3-0, and the pair of RB Das and Santanu clinched the doubles 3-0.
In the semifinals, Meghalaya continued their dominant run, defeating Manipur 3-0 to seal their spot in the final. Santanu Ghosh led the charge with a 3-0 win over Brajamani Sharma, while H. Singha defeated Shiv Beine 3-1. In the doubles, the team of RB Das and Ghosh secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Brajamani and Shiv.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya’s 50+ team faced setbacks and could not progress beyond the group stage. They suffered back-to-back 3-0 defeats against Nagaland and Assam in their matches.
The final of the 60+ Team event promises to be an exhilarating contest as Meghalaya looks to cap off their stellar campaign with the championship title.
