IMD to hold Natl Meteorological Olympiad

SHILLONG, Nov 29: As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the National Meteorological Olympiad (Met-Olympiad) with an aim to foster interest in weather and climate sciences among students.
According to a statement here, the Olympiad is open to students of classes 8, 9 and 11 and will be conducted in two phases—a state-level online test and a national-level workshop and contest in New Delhi.
Registration for the same is free and opens on December 1, via the official portal.
The state-level test, scheduled for December 14-15, 2024, features a one-hour, 60-question MCQ format. State-level winners will advance to a national contest and a workshop on January 14, 2025.
The grand finale coincides with IMD’s Foundation Day on January 15, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, during which awards will be distributed to the winners.
It was also informed that prizes include Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 for state-level winners in each class, while national winners will earn Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000.
