JOWAI, Dec 4: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Laskein C&RD Block Circle, has raised serious concerns over the lack of punctuality among the employees at the Laskein Block Office.
During a visit to the office on December 4, 2024, the HYC reportedly found that by 12 noon, the staff room was empty, with many employees yet to report to work or attend to their duties.
In some cases, the HYC said, offices remained unopened until after midday.
Expressing regret over the situation, the HYC criticised the apparent failure of the Block Development Officer (BDO) to manage staff effectively, describing it as a lack of responsibility and commitment to public service.
Pledging to monitor the conduct of the Laskein Block Office staff, with particular attention to the BDO, the HYC has called for immediate measures to address the issue.
They highlighted the significant inconvenience caused to local residents, especially those from Meghalaya-Assam border areas, who depend on timely government services.
HYC Laskein Block Circle president, Kularskhem Sariang, has urged authorities to ensure the office operates efficiently and warned that continued absenteeism among staff could lead to severe challenges for the community.
