SHILLONG, Dec 5: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) is currently probing the alleged multi-crore Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road scam, but a conclusion is still pending due to the technical complexity of the case. Sources said the inquiry requires a thorough examination of various aspects, making it challenging to provide a specific timeline for completion.
The project, approved in 2010 under the central government’s Special Road Development Programme-North East, underwent multiple revisions, increasing its estimated cost from Rs 1,303.83 crore to Rs 2,366.77 crore. Originally slated for completion in 2014, the project’s delays prompted PWD (NH) Chief Engineer AM Kharmawphlang to file an FIR based on revelations from arbitration proceedings conducted by the Arbitral Tribunal.
The CID took over the case from the state police last month, citing the investigation’s highly technical nature. With the project’s intricate details and potential implications, the CID is exercising caution to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.
