JOWAI, Dec 11: Over fifty differently-abled individuals from across the district participated in a one-day registration and counselling camp organised jointly by the National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled (NCSC-DA), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The event, which commenced at 11 am at HK Singh Memorial School, was attended by the parents and caretakers of the differently-abled individuals.
The camp was a collaborative effort by the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) and the NCSC-DA, Shillong.
Dr HH Mohrmen, SURE secretary, chaired the event, while D Biswas, rehabilitation officer at NCSC-DA, briefed attendees about various schemes and support available from both state and central governments.
During the interactive session, participants shared their thoughts and queries with notable contributors including Bisharlang Tariang, Gladliness Shylla, Krishna Phawa, Heiioobitmitre Dhar and Durka Sari.
Kelvin Suting, a visually impaired participant, expressed that the camp was highly informative.
Bisharlang Tariang, on the other hand, shared plans to leverage government opportunities to grow his existing business.
Meanwhile, Ngalong Sukhlain, who works as a mobile phone repair mechanic despite having no lower limbs, stated his intention to seek assistance to establish his own repair unit.
