ULFA linkman hurt in blast; arms cache recovered

Guwahati: A suspected ULFA linkman was injured when a crude bomb went off accidentally in his house in BG Road area in Sivsagar town in eastern Assam, while a huge cache of arms and ammunition of the same outfit was recovered from Goalpara in western Assam.
Police said a blast was reported from the house of one Raju Ali in Sivsagar town this forenoon.The crude bomb is suspected to have gone off while Raju was inspecting it.
Both the hands of the person were badly damaged in the explosion, with splinters also entering his chest. He was rushed to a local hospital. Police suspect Raju to be a linkman for the ULFA. A police team that searched Raju’s house after the incident recovered explosives and another crude bomb.
Meanwhile, in a separate raid, a huge cache of arms and ammunition of the ULFA(I) was found buried in a rubber garden in Goalpara district.
The cache comprised six Improvised Explosive Devices, six detonators and several AK-47 rifles. The recovery was made based on the confession of an arrested ULFA(I) cadre. (UNI)
