SHILLONG, Dec 16: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council on Monday asked the state government to come clean on the recent amendment made to the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion Facilitation Act, 2024 whereby the Invest Meghalaya Authority (IMA) has been empowered to purchase and allot land to private investors and corporates.
“We demand that the proposed amendment be put in the public domain for soliciting views, opinions and suggestions from the general public and key stakeholders before it is passed and made into a law by the Assembly,” HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said.
He said they are of the opinion that the proposed amendment will create a situation where the IMA, through the land mafia in the state, will gain control and monopolise the land sale in the state.
He added that in the name of IMA and development, these land mafias will acquire huge plots of land from the actual owners and then sell them at exorbitant prices to the government.
