Four dead after truck plunges into gorge in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, Dec 17: Four individuals lost their lives after a timber-laden truck they were travelling in plunged into a gorge near Mynnar Jirang village in Patharkhmah area of Ri-Bhoi late Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Edward Nongkhlaw, Teilor Nongphlang, and Francis Warjri from Iewsohksang village, along with Bankerlang Khyllait from Jirang Centre village.
One survivor, Benedic Syiem, is currently undergoing treatment in Shillong.
The bodies of the four deceased were brought to Nongpoh civil hospital for legal formalities.
Following the incident, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun met with the bereaved families and urged the authorities at Nongpoh civil hospital to expedite the formalities, release the bodies, and exempt the post-mortem examination as requested by the families.
