District Council polls: EVMs to arrive shortly

SHILLONG: The new EVMs to be used for the district council elections are expected to arrive in the State by the first week of February. This was informed by a senior government official here on Tuesday.

According to the official, the District Council Affairs department is procuring around 75 per cent of the EVMs while the remaining 25 per cent are already in its possession.
According to official sources, a total amount of Rs 1.10 crore has been earmarked for the KHADC through the 13th Finance Commission to procure the EVMs. Similar amounts have also been allotted to the JHADC and GHADC.
Replying to a query, the official informed that in the past the State Government used to provide the EVMs to the ADCs on loan to conduct the district council elections.
