Guwahati: Protests erupted in northern Assam on Thursday against killing of 10 villagers by miscreants in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Wednesday, with thousands of people staging a demonstration on NH 52 since morning.
The protestors, representing various organisations, shouted slogans against the government and demanded justice for the victims. The protestors also accused the Assam Police of reaching the place of occurrence more than ten hours after the incident.
Political leaders, especially those from Opposition parties, also rushed to the place and joined the protestors.
BJP MP Bijoya Chakraborty demanded resignation of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi following his ‘repeated failure’ to protect the life and property of the people of the state.  After fiery speeches and slogan-shouting for hours, blockade in Behali area against Arunachal Pradesh was ‘suspended’ by the protestors.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the deceased and has also assured free medical aid to the injured. (UNI)
