SHILLONG, Dec 28: As the festive season unfolds and the city gears up for New Year celebrations, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) is set to launch a special drive to ensure that revellers celebrate responsibly and within legal limits.
On Saturday, the STP urged citizens not to drive under the influence of alcohol. “If people plan to drink, they should have another driver with them. Under no circumstances should anyone exceed the legal alcohol limit of 30 milligrams (mg),” the police stated.
In India, the permissible blood alcohol content (BAC) is 30 milligrams (mg) of alcohol per 100 milliliters (ml) of blood.
The police further warned that strict action will be taken against individuals found guilty of drunken or rash driving. “There will be heavy penalties for such offenses, and we will also act against those engaging in illegal parking,” they added.
