Education scam
SHILLONG: A day after Police blamed the High Court of Meghalaya for the delay in providing original score sheets pertaining to the education scam, the Court said that the score sheets are available with the CBI.
Police was reacting to the charge of the Opposition UDP that there was undue delay on its part to act on the FIR filed against former Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and others for their alleged role in the education scam.
Police wanted the original documents from the Court to be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
Contradicting the claim of the Police that the score sheets are still with the High Court, the Registrar General of the Court, W Diengdoh on Saturday provided a copy of the Court’s order to substantiate that the original documents related to the score sheets are with the CBI.
Last year, the State Government had also asked the Court to provide the original score sheets for the High Level Scrutiny Committee to investigate the education scam further.
After the request from the Government, the Court on May 13 last had asked the Registrar General to submit a report with regard to the records of the CBI.
Following this, a report submitted by the Registrar General on May 24 said that the Registry had handed over all the relevant files and documents to the CBI on November 18, 2011 in response to the request made by M T Mang, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Inquiry Officer.
The CBI through an official letter of February 28 last year has also admitted that the files relating to the proceedings were received from the Registry of the Court on November 18, 2011. Further making the matter clear, an order issued on May 27 last by the then Chief Justice of High Court, T Meena Kumari, while referring to the matter, said that the records are available with the CBI office.
