Guv visit WJH, attends spate of programmes

SHILLONG, Dec 30: Celebrating the state’s rich cultural heritage, Governor CH Vijayashankar on Monday attended a series of significant events in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills.
The Governor paid tribute to legendary freedom fighter U Kiang Nangbah on his 162nd death anniversary during a commemorative event. He described Nangbah’s leadership during the 1862 uprising against British colonial rule as a timeless example of courage and dedication to protecting the cultural and moral values of the Jaintia community. He also commended organisations like Seinraij Jowai for their role in preserving the cultural identity and traditions of the Pnar people.
Later in the day, the Governor participated in a programme organised by the Kur Passah Clan, where he praised their efforts to preserve sacred sites and indigenous traditions. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the importance of unity and cultural identity, lauding the clan’s dedication as a model for other communities striving to safeguard traditional values.
During the event, he unveiled a plaque marking the beautification of ‘Ka Mujra Ka Mukan’ by the Kur Passah Clan. On his way back, the Governor visited the historic Nartiang Temple and the renowned Nartiang Monoliths, which stand as symbols of Meghalaya’s spiritual and historical legacy. His visit highlighted the need to promote and preserve the state’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
