SHILLONG, Jan 2: Former Cabinet Minister and Adviser to the Chief Minister, Hamletson Dohling on Thursday backed the state government over its “controversial” investment plans, saying the NPP-led MDA government has nothing to hide over its move to create a land bank by establishing the Invest Meghalaya Authority (IMA) under the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion Facilitation Act (MSIPFA), 2024.
Dohling told The Shillong Times that the creation of the land bank through the IMA will attract private investors which will create job opportunities and lead to the growth of the state.
“There will be an official statement from the state government, especially from the Chief Minister, that will clarify all the doubts and fears which had been expressed by various stakeholders including political parties, groups and individuals,” he said.
Dohling said the state government has made it clear that it will not dilute the existing land tenure system.
He also welcomed the suggestion to hold consultations with all stakeholders on the MSIPFA if there is a feeling that certain aspects of the policy need to be rectified or improved upon.
“The government will be more than happy to hold consultation with the various stakeholders to clear the doubts which are there on the MSIPFA, 2024,” Dohling added.
