SHILLONG, Jan 3: The Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) on Friday criticised the chanting of pro-Hindu slogans inside a church, asserting that such actions disrespect places of worship.
“India is a secular country and everyone has to respect every faith. Church is not place for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’,” KSP president Satya Ranjan Borah told media persons, while reacting to a recent incident where social media influencer, Akash Sagar, shouted pro-Hindu slogans inside a church in Mawlynnong village.
Borah emphasised that everyone has the right to live, worship and express themselves, but it is equally important to respect the sanctity of all religious spaces, including churches and temples.
“The respect has to be both ways. It cannot be done one way. We need to respect what is there in the church. At the same time, we also need to respect what we have in the temples,” he said.
Highlighting the responsibilities of citizens, the KSP president stressed the importance of adhering to fundamental duties to uphold national integrity and promote social harmony.
He said any activity undertaken should contribute to strengthening the nation’s unity and social cohesion.
