Arunachal Governor calls for restraint in Assam and Arunachal

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor of Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has called upon the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to be patient and restrain themselves from any violence.

The Governor said that he was pained by the recent violence in Tarasso bordering Assam in which precious lives have been lost and added that perpetrators of violence would be brought to book.

Ten CPI(ML) supprters were killed and eight others injured in an attack by unidentified assialnts from Arunachal on the Assam-Arunachal inter-state border on January 29.

The Governor was addressing a huge gathering at Sivsagar in Assam after inaugurating the Cross Country Flying Club, yesterday, a Raj Bhawan communiqué said here today.

He said that he had spoken to his Assam counterpart and Arunachal Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had taken up with his Assam counterpart to contain the violence and fear amongst the law abiding and innocent citizens.

Referring to economic blockade, the Governor said that it was hurting the common people of both the states, which have age-old tradition of being good neighbours.

The blockade is hampering even medical evacuation and emergency cases.

Advising the people to guard against rumours, Sharma said that nobody was gaining anything from these violent activities, other than anti social elements and their mentors who are instigating it and the unscrupulous hoarders.

The Governor further said that youth of Northeast are impatient for want of job and avenue for employment. Some of them have veered to path of violence and other nefarious means.

The club and other adventure activities, he said would help in channelizing the energy and dynamism of the youth for their progress and development of the region. (PTI)
