SHILLONG, Jan 6: After multiple bikes, allegedly stolen, were recovered in East Jaintia Hills, the police have reported that the owners of several stolen vehicles recovered by the authorities have reached out to the in-charge of the Umkiang Police Patrol Post (PPP) in the district.
Speaking to reporters, district police chief Giri Prasad stated that the police will verify the necessary documents to confirm ownership before handing over the vehicles to the rightful owners. This process will be carried out in coordination with the police stations where the initial FIRs were lodged for the missing vehicles.
The recovery of five stolen motorbikes has been a significant development. Two of these bikes were found abandoned along the roadside near Kuliang on Saturday and were subsequently brought to the Umkiang PPP. Police suspect the motorcycles were stolen.
Acting on a tip-off, the Umkiang police conducted a search operation in the Wahkoh area, which led to the discovery of three additional abandoned motorbikes.
The recovered vehicles include one Royal Enfield and two Bajaj Pulsars. The police are urging any additional vehicle owners to come forward with relevant documents for verification.
