Shillong, Jan 7: The Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) has proudly announced the participation of four talented boxers and one official in the prestigious 8th Elite Men National Boxing Championships, currently underway in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, from January 7 to 13, 2025.
Marking a strong start to the competition, Khrawbok Marwein delivered a stellar performance in the preliminary bout of the 50kg weight category.
Marwein outclassed Sayan Lodh of Tripura with a dominant 5-0 decision, showcasing his prowess and determination to excel on the national stage.
However, it was a bittersweet moment for Sunil Limbu in the 55kg weight category.
Despite his commendable effort, Limbu lost to Arunachal Pradesh’s Huri John in a closely contested split decision, ending 2-3 in favor of his opponent.
The Meghalaya contingent at the championships comprises Khrawbok Marwein (50kg), Sunil Limbu (55kg), Tusar Gurung (60kg), Balnas Sangma (75kg), and Plielad Mawroh, who serves as the coach and official.
The boxing community in Meghalaya is rallying behind the team as they compete against the country’s best. With a mix of experience and youthful determination, the state’s contingent hopes to leave a lasting impact at the championships.
