MAWKYRWAT, Jan 7: Congress candidate from Mawkyrwat constituency for upcoming district council elections has high hopes of securing a win, given the positive feedback during the previous Assembly elections from supporters and calculations based on Primary Unit members, which indicated he could secure up to 14,000 votes.
However, he admitted that unforeseen changes led to his loss in the 2023 elections, as the time for victory had not yet arrived.
He was speaking at a general meeting of the Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee (MBCC) held at Mawkyrwat Dorbar Hall on Tuesday, which was attended by over a hundred party leaders and supporters.
Acknowledging the departure of former Congress MDC Carness Sohshang and several of his leaders and supporters to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Lyngdoh admitted there was confusion in many villages due to the shift. “However, I have received reports from various villages that the majority of party supporters remain loyal. As leaders, we must meet them and reorganise all the units,” he urged, calling on leaders and supporters to work diligently in the villages to ensure a Congress victory in the upcoming elections.
Lyngdoh expressed his unwavering belief in the Congress party, describing it as the only party offering hope for the future of the country. He expressed confidence that the Congress would return to power both in the state and at the Centre.
If elected as an MDC, Lyngdoh pledged to focus on introducing strong laws to protect land, customs, and traditions, and to strengthen the Dorbar Shnongs.
The meeting was also attended by prominent leaders, including KV Kharlyngdoh, president of the South West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee (SWKHDCC); Manstudy Nongrem, former CEM of KHADC; Phrin Wanniang, adviser to the MBCC; and JM Lyngdoh, working president of the District Congress Committee, among others.
