SHILLONG, Jan 7: The ongoing turmoil in North-Eastern Hill University is likely to end soon, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang said on Tuesday.
He said he is slated to meet the Secretary, Ministry of Education, on January 13 and brief him about the ongoing issue in NEHU.
“During the meeting, I will suggest measure to end the turmoil in NEHU. I hope to see a breakthrough soon. We have some specific agenda to discuss, and we are hoping that these will lead to a solution,” Wahlang said.
He disclosed that the two-member committee has submitted its report to the Ministry. The Ministry has gone through the report but the state is being kept in the dark on the decisions taken.
Replying to a query, he said state government cannot recommend anything because NEHU is not a state university. He said the government’s primary concern is to look at the matter from the point of view of law and order. “We don’t want the students to suffer because of any law and order issue,” he said.
