SHILLONG, Jan 8: Amid growing speculation that the Voice of the People Party (VPP) might perform well in the upcoming elections to the KHADC and JHADC, senior NPP leader and Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has expressed confidence that his party will not only put up a strong fight but is also expected to secure a majority.
While acknowledging the possibility of anti-incumbency against the NPP, he stressed that the party would need to work harder to overcome such challenges.
When asked about Mawlai MDC Teiborlang Pathaw resigning from the NPP to contest the election as an independent candidate, Dhar said the matter would be discussed within the party.
He also dismissed speculations that many sitting MDCs from the NPP are reluctant to contest under the party’s banner.
“It is a usual process during elections. Sometimes, people want to leave the party, and other times they want to return,” he remarked.
On whether the VPP will be the toughest competitor for the NPP in the upcoming polls, Dhar denied the same, stating that electoral dynamics vary significantly from one constituency to another.
