SHILLONG: The ‘tainted’ school teachers of the government lower primary schools have threatened to take to the streets if the Government decides to terminate their services as per the recommendations of the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC).
“We have been made a scapegoat out of this whole controversy,” one of the affected teachers Shiva Siangshai said while addressing newsmen here on Monday adding that they have been victimized even after four years of service.
Maintaining that they have been appointed as per the merit list rolled out by the Education department, Siangshai said, “We want to make it clear that we never played any part in the tampering of the score sheet. We are facing punishment for not fault of ours.”
The aggrieved teacher also said that they have decided to challenge the show cause notice issued by the department. “We have asked the director to clarify on what grounds they have been termed as tainted,” he said.The aggrieved teachers have also sought the intervention of the Meghalaya High Court on the matter.
According to Siangshai, the teachers were also never made a party to the High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) and no one approached them during the entire investigation either by the HLSC or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The HLSC has directed the state government to terminate 246 lower primary school teachers whose services have been found ‘tainted’.
