SHILLONG, Jan 9: Education Minister Rakkam Sangma hit back at the VPP for its call for his replacement. He asked the VPP to focus on providing ideas and roadmaps rather than criticising the government and its ministers ahead of elections to autonomous district councils.
The VPP had earlier suggested that the state government replace Sangma for the betterment of the education sector, claiming that he is often “clueless” about the issues he is dealing with.
Reacting to the statement, Sangma questioned the motive behind the VPP’s statement. He said the party’s position seemed to be driven by the interests of some businessmen or individuals rather than the welfare of the education sector.
Addressing concerns over the recent shift from MBOSE to NCERT textbooks, Sangma said the transition faced little opposition from faculty members or students. He defended the move, emphasising its positive impact on the education system.
He urged the VPP and other parties to present constructive ideas and roadmaps which can help shape the future of Meghalaya.
