Party announces second list of candidates for ADC polls

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, Jan 10: Meghalaya Congress chief, Vincent H. Pala, on Friday stated that the party is focusing on a mix of new faces and experienced politicians for the upcoming elections to the autonomous district councils (ADCs).
“We should blend fresh faces with experienced leaders to ensure better governance,” Pala remarked, informing that seven sitting MDCs and former MLAs are contesting on the Congress ticket this election.
When asked about preparations for the JHADC polls, Pala explained that the party is currently prioritising the KHADC due to its larger constituencies. He noted that JHADC constituencies are smaller, as there are four district council constituencies within one Assembly segment.
“I will meet the selected candidates for the JHADC on January 14 to plan for the upcoming elections,” he said.
Further, Pala informed that the Congress will hold a meeting with all ticketed candidates on Saturday to strategise for the polls.
On Friday, the Congress announced its second list of candidates, naming 11 candidates for the KHADC and five for the JHADC.
The KHADC candidates include sitting MDC Victor Rani from Jirang, Micky Douglas Syiem from Umroi, Lamborsing Nongrum from Nongkrem, Rilang Nongkhlaw from Lyngkyrdem-Laitkroh and senior journalist R Monarch Shabong from Nongshken.
For the JHADC, the candidates are Bitos Sari from Mukhla-Ummulong, Katbanbiang Lamare from Nartiang, Richard Sing Lyngdoh from Mynso-Nongjngi, Saron Pasweth from Jowai South and Lalwilliama Thaite from Saipung Nongkhlieh.
Other candidates for the KHADC include Batskhem Marbañiang from Mawsynram, B Vitus Rymmai from Sohra, George Sun from Mawphlang-Diengiei, G Ningstar Marthong from Nongstoin, Kodang Rashir from Mawshynrut and Pherdonnam Rngaid from Langrin.
