Shillong, Jan 11: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Saturday expressed confidence that the party is going to form the Executive Committee (EC) in both KHADC and JHADC after the upcoming elections scheduled for February 21.

Terming the district council elections as crucial for the Congress, AICC general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya, A Chellakumar expressed confidence in the revival of the Congress in Meghalaya.

On Congress supporting NPP in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, he said that the support to NPP was to ensure and strengthen the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Meanwhile, AICC in-charge of Meghalaya claimed that there are many who have already joined the party adding that there are many who are in the queue to join the party.

“We are going to admit them one by one. You will come to know in due course of time,” Chellakumar said.

He also said that party leaders who deserted the Congress can rejoin the party once they make their mind.

The AICC in-charge of Meghalaya however said that the party has not sent any feelers or formal invitation to any former Congress leaders including Mukul Sangma and Charles Pyngrope to return to the party fold.

“But we would want all Congressmen to return for the strengthening of the party and for the interest of the State and country,” Chellakumar said.

Earlier, the AICC in-charge of Meghalaya had addressed the party selected candidates for the upcoming council polls during the meeting held at Congress Bhavan.
