SHILLONG, Jan 12: Turning her childhood dream of flying among the clouds into reality through years of dedication and hard work, Minerva Wahlang, a 22-year-old girl from Nongmensong, has soared above the odds in a region where few youths venture into the aviation industry.
Minerva has successfully completed her Commercial Pilot License (CPL) course from the prestigious Chimes Aviation Academy in Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in her journey toward a professional aviation career. With her CPL in hand, she is now set to take on opportunities with leading airlines, bringing her closer to piloting Boeings and Airbuses.
Reflecting on her achievement, Minerva expressed gratitude to God and her parents for their unwavering support. She described the journey as tough but exhilarating, noting the lack of awareness about aviation opportunities in Meghalaya.
“I didn’t know anyone in this profession, so I had to rely on pilots who are vloggers. Watching their videos gave me valuable insights,” she said.
Minerva, who completed her schooling from St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, also highlighted the need for better career counseling in the Northeast.
She added, “Very few youths from our region consider aviation because of limited guidance. The state needs people who can shed light on this industry and show the way to aspiring youths.”
Her parents, Satyendra Kumar Joshi, an advocate, and Meristella Wahlang, expressed pride in their daughter’s accomplishments.
“It was her dream to become a pilot, and she pursued it with sincerity and dedication. We stood by her decision, and we thank God for her success,” they said.
They also urged the Meghalaya government to create awareness and provide coaching for young aspirants in the aviation sector, emphasising its challenges but also its lucrative potential.
During her rigorous training at Chimes Aviation Academy, Minerva clocked countless flight hours and honed her skills in aircraft operations, navigation, and advanced aviation safety. Her achievements make her a beacon of inspiration, particularly for young women in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Minerva’s success comes at a time when India’s aviation industry is witnessing rapid growth and increasing female representation. Her journey stands as a testament to the growing opportunities for women and the power of resilience and determination.
As she awaits recruitment openings from top airlines, Minerva is ready to take her next step in the skies, determined to make her state and region proud. “We are proud of her and believe she will continue to bring glory to Meghalaya,” her parents said.
