Youth body holds cleaning drive, promotes climate awareness

TURA, Jan 13: As part of the ‘Garo Hills Climate Warriors Project’, an initiative that aims to promote cleanliness and climate awareness, a cleaning drive was organised at New Bhaitbari Bazaar, West Garo Hills, which also promoted cleanliness and climate awareness.
Organised by the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC) Local Chapter, Meghalaya, the event saw nthusiastic participation from the New Bhaitbari Bengali Youth Federation, the New Bhaitbari Bazaar Committee, and the All Meghalaya Minorities Labour Union.
Following the cleaning drive, an awareness campaign was held, which stressed on the importance of cleanliness in combating climate change. Similar awareness campaigns were also conducted with local youths and school students, highlighting their critical role in addressing climate challenges.
All participants of the cleaning drive were honoured with Gamocha (a traditional Assamese towel) and certificates, recognising their contributions and encouraging continued community involvement in environmental initiatives.
The Garo Hills Climate Warriors Project is an initiative of the NYCC, supported by YuWaah and UNICEF, and implemented by Bring Back Green. The project aims to engage youth and communities across Meghalaya in environmental conservation and climate resilience activities.
