SHILLONG, Jan 13: Meghalaya is yet to report any case of HMPV so far but the Health Department is taking all necessary precautions and making preparations to handle any potential surge in cases.
A health official said the department has no plan to screen people entering the state from outside.
It is worth mentioning that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will soon send test kits to Meghalaya, enabling the state to conduct tests for HMPV. The kits are expected to arrive shortly.
Recently, Assam reported its first HMPV case, involving a 10-month-old child from Lakhimpur who was diagnosed with the virus. The child, undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, is now reported to be out of danger, according to doctors.
Amid heightened surveillance across India, 17 cases of the HMPV virus have been reported across the country till date.
