SHILLONG: The peace pact with Garo militant outfits ANVC and ANVC (B) now awaits all important Cabinet approval.

“The matter has gone to the Cabinet and we cannot make any comment now since the Cabinet will take up the matter shortly,” said Shambu Singh, Joint Secretary in charge North-East, ministry of Home Affairs over phone from Delhi on Wednesday.

He said that since the ANVC-B had also signed the draft peace pact, both the groups would be brought under the peace pact.

However, Singh made it clear that the peace pact and increase of seats in the autonomous district councils were two different things as the matter related to the seats has to be determined by Parliament.

On the mushrooming of criminal groups in Garo Hills , Singh said that the State Government should deal with “It appears that everybody is after easy money thereby resulting in formation of splinter groups”, he said.
