Killing of four ANVC-B rebels

SHILLONG: West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi has asked Additional District Magistrate (ADM) DD Shira to expeditiously complete the inquiry into the incident in which four ANVC-B cadres were allegedly killed during an encounter with police on the outskirts of Tura on January 11.
Speaking to The Shillong Times over phone, Bakshi said the inquiry has been ordered as per standard practice in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the National Human Rights Commission on cases of encounter killings.
Bakshi informed that Shira has been asked to complete the probe within 4-6 weeks. The normal timeline for such inquiry as per NHRC rules is four weeks, but in special cases a timeline of eight weeks may be given.
The four ANVC-B militants were gunned down near Dobasipara and Darenggre village on the outskirts of Tura town just hours after they allegedly exploded a crude bomb next to a petrol pump in the heart of the West Garo Hills district headquarter. The outfit has been crying foul since then and has accused the police of killing its cadres in cold blood in a ‘fake encounter’.
